We Finally Crossed Paths

Who would have known that the love of my life would have been living just minutes away from me all these years. What started as a business meeting with his mom at his place led to us crossing paths for the very first time. It felt like the Universe had planned our timeline, perfectly. 

Ben was generous to invite me to join his weekly badminton group, and I was open to meeting more friends through wholesome and healthy activities. Week after week, we learned more about each other and soon a connection developed, and in the best possible way, things started to click for us.

We went on more food hunts and explored new places together, making memories and deepening our appreciation for each other. I'm grateful for the wonderful experiences we have shared over time and also for the circumstances that brought us closer. It's the little things in our day to day interactions that tell me I can journey in life, happily alongside you. :)

The Proposal

After being together for nearly a year and a half, we had developed a strong bond and truly enjoy each other’s company. We’ve learned to navigate our lifestyles and habits together, and were able to rationally discuss and resolve conflicts as a couple. This strong foundation made me feel ready to take the next step in our relationship. 

Organizing a surprise proposal for someone who delights in surprises brings its own set of challenges. Melissa has a strong intuition and I had to do my best to keep my plans a secret! Such as selecting a date that could be masked over an occasion (where we both dress up nicely without giving it away), and acting nonchalant to the endless probes from relatives over Chinese new year which was a week before the proposal!

Not just the date/occasion, finding a memorable location where a proposal that would be least suspecting was another challenge. Knowing that Melissa loves to capture memories on video, I also needed a plan where I could request for the help of people to document the special moments for us without giving the surprise away.

I made reservations to celebrate Valentine's Day over the weekend on 17 February 2024 and Melissa wasn't aware about the details. Along the drive towards the destination, Melissa was making guesses and her first guess was "SENTOSA!" I had to keep a straight face, and soon enough, she knew she had gotten it correctly on her first guess!

As we walked towards the location, I heard her exclaim, "OOOOOHHHH I THINK I KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING!" My heart skipped a beat. She was still really excited even though she had been onboard The Royal Albatross before.

Little did she know...

Thanks to the discretion and professionalism of the crew, Melissa was 100% surprised when she turned to see that the sail she was hoisting had the words "Will You Marry Me?" written on it. The look on her face was pure astonishment! I held her hand and brought her over to the sail as she exclaimed "bunny....really?"

Everything happened so quickly! With a ring in my hand, I got on one knee and asked Melissa "Will you marry me?" :)

We proceeded to have our dinner onboard The Royal Albatross while watching the beautiful sunset! 

The cutest thing was Melissa was so surprised, she didn't immediately answer yes (although she was wearing the ring throughout dinner haha). As there was no verbal confirmation, I decided to re-enact a second round of proposal in a more private setting. When the rest of the guests onboard departed, we proceeded to the lower deck cabin to check the area out. I took this window of opportunity to get on one knee and asked her "Will You Marry Me?" She finally said "ok!" I was elated and relieved to get a verbal confirmation and that the proposal was a success - I managed to completely surprise her and capture the moments on one of the most important days of our lives! Seeing her smiles and hearing her laughter made all the effort and planning over the past few months most meaningful. As I hugged her, I thought to myself, I can't wait to start the next chapter of our journey together. :)

The Venue

The place that holds so much meaning for both of us.

Walking along the boardwalk of ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove, curious about each other's stories, and sitting on the swing at the playground enjoying sandwiches while having heartfelt conversations were some of the earliest memories we have together. This will always be a special place for us, and a reminder of where it all started. 

If someone had told us then that you've finally found the person you would spend the rest of your life with, and the universe would lead you back to this destination as newlyweds celebrating the start of a new journey together, perhaps we would have been curious to see how things unfolded, maybe even a little hopeful that it might come true some day, soon enough. :)
